South Shore Furniture is a relatively new concept within Industrie de la Rive Sud. Although the brand name is a recent addition, the company is steeped in three generations of tradition spanning 65 years. Industrie de la Rive Sud, also known as South Shore Industries, has been located in Quebec, since its establishment in 1940, when Eugène LaFlamme purchased a defunct toy manufacturer. The plant was quickly rebuilt in 1941, adding all of the latest equipment available to include the making of quality wood furniture, which at the time focused on tables and chairs. Today, the company manufactures everything from bedroom and dining room sets to entertainment centers. Over the years, South Shore Industries has stayed true to their idea of providing individuals with affordable pieces that are built to last. They have accomplished this goal by refitting and expanding their plants, when new technology became available.
The new tagline “A Smart Choice,” reflects the South Shore vision of offering quality furniture at affordable prices. The company has taken this one step further, by committing themselves to the preservation of natural resources. Although they will never skimp on quality, South Shore uses panels that are made of recovered and recycled wood. This process produces a laminated, engineered wood that is extremely strong and durable. Because of this innovative technique, South Shore is able to preserve our forests, which are a vital resource for the generations to come. They are also devoted to helping the community. Mr. Guy Laflamme, the Chairman, received a “Lifetime Achievement Award” from the Canadian Home Furnishing Association for his 36 years of work within the industry, and his service to charities, such as the Alzheimer Society and Teenagers with Problems. In addition, the Association also presented an award to Industrie de la Rive Sud’s for their Aquarelle youth bedroom furnishings collection.
South Shore Industries appreciates the competitive nature of the furniture market today. Unlike other manufactures in North America, they have focused on selling quality items within this core region. The company has decided against offering their line overseas, and instead, is dedicated to the North American area. Their line is available in both ready to be assembled and pre-built pieces.
The South Shore selection is all made from the same laminated, engineered wood, which ensures durability, so the finishes, styles, and colors can vary greatly. The products are offered in designs that will compliment a contemporary, rustic/country, shaker, or traditional/classic décor. The finishes are available in black, blue, charcoal, chocolate, maple, oak, pine, red, white and yellow, so you are sure to find a tone that will fit your palette. These colors come in variations. For example, the South Shore “404” 5-piece youth captain’s bedroom set has an antique blue finish with cumin maple accents, while the “410” 7-piece ensemble incorporates a vanilla cream veneer. In addition, South Shore furniture can be purchased in sets that will complete a room. For instance, South Shore’s youth bedroom ensembles offer everything from the headboard to matching desks and entertainment centers.
Of course, when you purchase large ticket items like furniture, you want to ensure you are receiving quality merchandise. This line is backed by a five-year warranty. South Shore wants to help you keep your items appearance beautiful, and with some simple maintenance, along with protective measures, you can keep it looking its best for years to come. If at all possible, ensure that your new pieces are not receiving direct sunlight. These harmful rays can result in unwanted fading of the finish. It is also important to avoid prolonged exposure to liquids or damp cloths, otherwise unsightly staining may occur. Products that contain ammonia can also damage the finish. South Shore recommends that if you are placing any type of appliance on the item, such as a computer or television, cloth or felt protectors should be positioned under the equipment to prevent scratches. Plastic or rubber rings must never be used, because they tend to mar the surface. Maintaining the appearance of your new South Shore Furniture to keep it looking like you just brought it home from the showroom is a breeze; simply use a soft or slightly dampened cloth to wipe off any dust and dirt. If you prefer cleaning with a wet cloth, then be sure to dry the piece off with a similar type of material when you are done to prevent staining. Following these simple steps will ensure your items stay as radiant as the day you bought them.
Although the name South Shore Furniture has only been around since 2005, Industrie de la Rive Sud is a company you can trust to produce high quality furnishings for your home, just like they have been doing for over half a century. Their dedication to durability and affordability is enhanced only by the companies desire to preserve our natural resources. By producing pieces made from recycled wood, South Shore has done their part to protect our forests without sacrificing the strength of the materials. Three generations of the LaFlamme family have maintained the standards established with the companies birth in 1941. Their passion has ensured that the most technological manufacturing techniques are employed to reduce costs and increase the superiority of this fine furniture.
