I don't have a separate bedroom in my studio apartment. How can I have a comfortable, modern looking place to sleep? - Cramped in Cleveland

Dear Cramped in Cleveland,

If you are looking for modern functionality and versatility, a good option is to take a look at some of our offerings from Modloft. This company creates contemporary furniture that is designed to fit in the smaller spaces seen in studios and loft apartments. If you need somewhere to sleep, and you have either a tiny bedroom, or lack one entirely, think about a modern contemporary daybed. These have a great benefit over traditional beds.

Other types of bed really require a separate bedroom since they look completely out of place anywhere else. This gives way to the advantage contemporary daybeds have. They can be put into any room. During the day, your contemporary daybed can be used either for seating or for a quick afternoon nap. Contemporary daybeds are more comfortable in many cases than futons, they are also more readily accepted in their design than their sister futons. Since your daybed will fit in so well with other living room furniture, you do not have to worry about needing another room in which to put it. Take some time to consider bringing a contemporary daybed into your home.

What all do I need for modern bedroom furniture? - Keen on Contemporary in Cincinnati, OH

Dear Keen on Contemporary in Cincinnati, OH,

If you are looking to outfit a contemporary bedroom there will be several pieces of home furnishings which you will need. Of course, you will need a bed. Your first choice for a bed will be the size. Then you must decide upon which of our contemporary modern bedroom collections you prefer. When you choose a collection, half of your battle is won. You can find complete bedroom with everything you need in the modern home.

Many people do not think about the other pieces that they will need besides their bed, but you will also need to find a modern contemporary chest to place in your room. Why do you need a contemporary chest? These pieces are some of the most functional, yet often neglected furnishings in the bedroom. Some people believe that all they will need for storage will be just a dresser, but they quickly realize that they have much more than will fit into the drawers of the dresser. This is where having a modern contemporary chest can be useful. Many people put clothes into a dresser, but they will use their chest for storage of extra linens and out of season clothing. The ample space in the drawers of our contemporary chests allows you to hide away everything that you have or need to store.

My kids don't want an old fashioned looking bunk bed for their room. Do you sell contemporary bunk beds? - Mom in a Muddle in Memphis, TN

Dear Mom in a Muddle in Memphis, TN,

Yes, we have modern-looking contemporary bunk beds that will fit right in with your child's modern tastes. We have a unique model of contemporary bunk bed that you might not see at other stores. Ours is the Coaster "7280" Bunk Bed. This is a loft twin bed over a computer work station. If you get two of these, not only will each of your children have their own bed, but they will both have their own computer desk at which to do their homework. You children might be more inclined to completing their assignments if they do not have to fight with their sibling for work space.

Contemporary bunk beds are a good choice if you are looking to save floor space. You can have two beds, or a bed and a desk in the same amount of floor space as a single twin bed. Be aware, though that you should only get a contemporary bunk bed for an older child who is capable of climbing the ladder into the loft bed by himself during the night. A very young child might fall down trying to climb in or out of bed, even though all of our bunk beds are equipped with safety rails to prevent children from rolling out of bed during the night.

What is a bedroom bench? Can I put one with other contemporary furniture? - Boggled by Bedroom Benches in Boston

Dear Boggled by Bedroom Benches in Boston,

When you are getting dressed in the morning, you hopefully have already made your bed, but you still need to sit down to put on your shoes and socks. It would not be a very good idea to sit on your freshly tidied bed. That would wrinkle the covering. Instead, you should have a convenient spot at the end of your bed where you can sit as you dress. This is the purpose of a bedroom bench, and we have many contemporary benches to fit in perfectly with other modern bedroom furnishings. They make an ideal addition to the foot of a contemporary bed.

There are other uses for our contemporary bedroom benches besides a place to put on your shoes in front of your bed. There are options in our selection which have a storage area for keeping extra blankets or winter sweaters. These contemporary benches can also be placed before a vanity or a mirror atop a dresser for a spot to do your morning preening. The many styles of benches for contemporary bedrooms we offer have the same high quality and low prices of all our products.

I am looking for something modern to put my TV inside in my bedroom. What do you recommend? - TV Talker in Tennessee

Dear TV Talker in Tennessee,

If you seek media storage for a bedroom with a clean, modern look, then you have come to the right place. We have just the contemporary armoires to meet your needs. Many people are sadly unaware of what contemporary modern armoires really are. They are simply cabinets in which to store your computer or television. Perhaps alternate names for them might help you to get a clearer idea as to their original purpose and use.

Sometimes these storage cabinets are called contemporary armoire wardrobes. This is because these were once used instead of closets. Armoires were very popular during America's early years because England had imposed a tax on every room of the house, including closets, so this means that the colonists had to find an alternative. The word comes from the 16th century French. At this time, everything French was very popular, and the name for their contemporary armoire wardrobes had to fit in with the rest of fashionable names.

Today, you do not have to store clothing in your contemporary armoire, most people use them to hide away their computers and televisions. By keeping your TV and accessories behind the cabinet doors, you can keep from having unsightly cords snaking around your bedroom, but your television will be near enough at hand to watch from your bed.

Would cherry beds be good for a child's room? - Chipper for Children's Cherry in Chicago, IL

Dear Chipper for Children's Cherry in Chicago, IL,

Yes, cherry is an excellent choice for children's bedroom furniture. If you are looking for a bed, we recommend our smaller cherry twin beds for your child. These beds are the perfect size for smaller bodies, or for single people who do not need a lot of extra room when they sleep. Twin sized cherry beds are narrower than full beds, and in some cases they are slightly shorter in length as well. These beds are the best size to fit smaller bodies and smaller rooms, which is often the case with children's bedrooms. Twin beds are typically 41" - 45" wide and 76" - 85" long. The discrepancies in sizes are due to differences between the furniture design companies and the style of the bed.

There are many different types of cherry wood twin sized beds from which to choose. We have poster beds, sleigh beds, and captains beds in twin sized cherry. These options bring the rich, sophisticate look of cherry into your child's bedroom. Twin sized cherry beds are crafted from a material which will not be outgrown by your child. Cherry has a timeless look that will also be sure to withstand the travails of a child's use. Our high quality, low cost cherry wood twin beds come from the most trusted, well-known names in furniture design such as Ashley, Homelegance, and Vaughan – Bassett. Any of the options from our selection would make an ideal addition to a children's bedroom.

Is there a difference between your queen cherry and full cherry beds? I though they were the same size. - Queen Bed Inquirer in Albuquerque

Dear Queen Bed Inquirer in Albuquerque,

There is a difference between our cherry wood queen beds and our full sized cherry beds. In general, our queen cherry beds are about six inches longer and wider than their equivalent full sized beds. The exact measures can vary by furniture designer, and if you are looking for the largest assortment of cherry beds, you will find more options in queen sized cherry beds than in full. This is because queen beds are a more popular size. This is because couples often opt for a queen or king sized bed rather than a full bed. Singles who need a lot of bed space for sleeping also appreciate the larger size queen beds offer.

Those extra six inches in length and width can make a difference in the ability of an adult to comfortably fit in the bed or not. The last thing that you will want will be to have your feet dangling over the edge of the bed. If you are unsure if you will be able to lay down and stretch out in a full bed, you will likely want to upgrade to a cherry wood queen bed. The extra space will create a better night's sleep for you. When you are in doubt, a new cherry wood queen bed or an even larger king sized cherry bed.

I saw a night stand in a set of cherry bedroom furniture on your website. What is it? Do I need one? - Not Knowing Night Stands in Nashville

Dear Not Knowing Night Stands in Nashville,

We are glad that you were looking through the selections of cherry bedroom suites here at Coleman Furniture. You saw some of the best examples of cherry night stands that you can buy. Just by looking at a cherry night stand, it might be difficult to discern its intended use, but the beauty of cherry bedroom furnishings is that you can use them for anything you wish.

The most common use for cherry night stands is to place them beside a bed in order to keep things which might be needed during the night close at hand. Most of our cherry night stands have drawers in which you could put a book and reading glasses to prevent them from being knocked off the top of the night stand during the night. The tops are also ready spots for holding your alarm clock. This way, the clock is close enough to see the time in the middle of the night, and near enough to turn it off – or hit the snooze button for a third time – when it sounds in the morning. If you share a bed, you might want to consider getting two cherry wood night stands. That way, you and your significant other will have your own spot for keeping personal items.

There is a wide variety of cherry night stands to be found here, in many styles and darknesses of cherry wood. You can choose one that will match the rest of your cherry bedroom furniture, or you could simply pick the one you like best.

Please say that you have something that's a little more country looking for cherry king beds. - Choosy about Country Cherry in Cleveland

Dear Choosy about Country Cherry in Cleveland,

Not all of our cherry king beds are classic European in style. Many of our designs could easily be found in a rustic lodge or country inn. They offer the laid back elegance which is so coveted in such far off retreats. To create your own rustic retreat, look no further than our collection of king sized cherry beds.

One of the advantages of a king cherry wood bed is that the very size of the bed adds to the effect of the the room design. Country style is all about simplicity, and nothing says simplicity louder than having over-sized furnishings in you bedroom. A cherry king bed which dominates your bedroom helps to create this illusion, but you also want the right style of king cherry bed. See how the Ashley "Timberline" king bed or the Vaughan-Bassett "Barnburner" King bed. Other design styles which might appeal to you as well could be mission or American Colonial. We have several examples of mission cherry king beds as well in our collection such as the Vaughan-Bassett "Cherry-Mission" king bed, and an example of an American Colonial bed would be the Homelegance "1382" king bed. Take some time to consider other styles as well as traditional country. You might find a new love for your cherry king bed design choice.

What is the best sized cherry bed for a single woman? What is the difference in sizes? - Stumped on Sleeping Surface Sizes in Seattle

Dear Stumped on Sleeping Surface Sizes in Seattle,

If you are a single person, the bed you sleep on does not have to be very large. We have a wide selection of cherry full beds which would give an adult woman enough room to splay out your limbs while sleeping, but the bed itself will not take up the entire interior of a small room. Their compromise between ample snoozing space and bedroom floor space saving are what make our full sized cherry beds some of our most popular bedding choices.

You will find twin, full, queen and king sizes in our cherry bedroom sets. Most of our cherry wood full size beds are around 80"- 85" long and 50" - 65" wide. The length is from head board to foot board, and the width is from one end to the other. The ranges represent the many different styles from our numerous brands of cherry full beds. If you would like something smaller there are cherry twin beds which are typically 40" - 42" wide and 74" - 76" long. We also have larger king and queen beds. Queen sized cherry beds can be found as having widths of 63" - 68" and lengths of 76"- 86". The king cherry wood beds range from 81" - 84" wide and 82" - 86" long. Choose the size which you think is right for you. Do not forget to take into account your sleeping patterns and habits. These will go a long way to helping you decide if a cherry full bed is the best size for you.

What should I look for in a good cherry chest? - Clueless about Cherry Chests in Chicago

Dear Clueless about Cherry Chests in Chicago,

There are many things to consider when you are purchasing new cherry bedroom furnishings. Among these are the choice which you have to make for a cherry wood chest. Our selections of cherry chests all tie into our many different offerings of bedroom suite sets. You do not have to order the entire suite to get the cherry chest. If you prefer, you can mix and match pieces from many of the sets.

When you are looking for a cherry chest, think about your personal tastes and style. Do you like contemporary or classic? Are you urban chic or country comfy? What kind of a nightly oasis do you want to create in your home. Cherry wood chests, unlike dressers have all of their drawers stacked on top of each other in a single column. Cherry dressers, on the other hand typically have two or three columns of drawers. This makes dressers shorter than chests, ending at waist height for an adult. This enables you to attach a mirror to your dresser. Most people have both cherry chests and dressers in their rooms. This can considerably save on closet space. You should look for sturdy, quality name brand cherry wood chests such as those seen in our selection. We back up all of our products with a satisfaction guarantee to make certain that you are happy with your purchase.

I want something different in my cherry bedroom. What are bedroom benches? How can I use them? - Blue from Boring Bedrooms in Baltimore

Dear Blue from Boring Bedrooms in Baltimore,

What are cherry bedroom benches? These are finely crafted pieces of cherry furniture that add a touch of class to any bedroom. Occasionally, you might find these referred to as dressing benches. They are simply backless seats upon which you can sit while you are preparing for the day. These give you a spot to sit when you are putting on your shoes without wrinkling the bedspread on a freshly made bed. You can even keep your shoes under the cherry bedroom bench to keep them out of the middle of the room, but still close at hand.

Many people put their cherry wood bedroom bench at the foot of their bed. There, the bench is in a convenient place, but it will not affect the foot traffic of the room. If you would like additional storage, we even have cherry bedroom benches which have a top that opens to reveal a storage area beneath. Not only are

I need a new wardrobe. Do you have any? How about any made out of cherry? - Wishing for a Wardrobe in WA

Dear Wishing for a Wardrobe in WA,

You say to-may-to, I say to-ma-to. You say wardrobe, we say armoire. To answer your questions yes and yes. Rather than using the term wardrobe, though, which is mainly in reference to clothing storage, we call ours armoires, and you will have a wide range of choices for the cherry armoires which you seek.

The difference between a wardrobe and our cherry armoires is that an armoire can also be used for storing other things in your cherry wood bedroom besides clothes. Many use our cherry wood armoires to house their televisions or computers in their bedrooms, living rooms, or home offices. By keeping your television in a cherry armoire you can easily shut the cabinets when you are finished watching to avoid the distraction that it can pose to the eye. Many people like to use this technique since having a television out in the open often does not fit in with the rest of their cherry bedroom décor.

Like all of our home furnishings, you can get any of our cherry armoires at guaranteed low prices. Look no further for your wardrobe. You have found it here in our selection of cherry wood armoires.

Dear Bound for a Black Bedroom in Boston,

Some people find our black queen beds too small for their needs. Most cases these are couples who each like to have their own sleeping space on the bed without interference from their partner. These people are looking for king sized black beds for their black bedrooms.

What kind of furnishings do you have for a black bedroom? - Bound for a Black Bedroom in Boston

Dear Bound for a Black Bedroom in Boston,

The entire reason for having a bedroom, is a place to sleep. This means that the bed is the center of the room. The size you opt for will be determined by the amount of space you have.

Our black queen beds are good for couples who do not need a lot of extra sleeping room per person, but this is entirely a personal matter. Your sleeping position and style are unique to you and your significant other, so any choice for a queen sized black bed should be made as a couple. What kind of furnishings do you have for a black bedroom? - Bound for a Black Bedroom in Boston

Dear Bound for a Black Bedroom in Boston,

After you get your black night stands, you will still need something to put them beside. How about one of our black full beds The entire reason for having a bedroom, is a place to sleep. This means that the bed is the center of the room. The size you opt for will be determined by the amount of space you have and the number of beds that you need.

If you are single, a good option for you is a full sized black bed. If you have a small bedroom decked out in dark furnishings, you will still need space to move around. This is why a black full sized bed is a prime choice. It gives you more sleeping room than a twin bed, but it does not fill the room the way that a king sized bed can. For singles, a full black bed gives you about the same sleeping surface that each person in a couple would get on a king bed.

Full sized black beds are also good for older children's rooms if they feel too cramped in a twin bed. Many teenagers find great appeal in the sophisticated look to our many black bedroom suites. Seemingly overnight, they will shun their pastel daybed and beg for a new black bed. A full sized black bed in their room will give them a bed to fit their quickly growing bodies.

Next time, a look at our queen sized black beds.

What kind of furnishings do you have for a black bedroom? - Bound for a Black Bedroom in Boston

Dear Bound for a Black Bedroom in Boston,

Last time we discussed black mirrors. Now, the answer to the riddle posed in the last post. Usually seen in pairs, many people put them next to their black beds. They are black night stands such as those seen among our large variety here at Coleman Furniture.

A black night stand is the perfect side piece for a king sized black bed. In fact, most dark-colored bedrooms have two black night stands, one for either side of the bed. This allows couples to each have their own side table to put things on at night. With two black night stands beside the bed, people will not have to reach over their significant other to reach for a glass of water left by the bed. He could have that glass on a night stand on his side of the bed, while his wife keeps her midnight box of cookies on her own black night stand. There is also another benefit to having two black night stands on either side of the bed. It adds a look of symmetry to the room. This creates a complete look to the design of your bedroom.

We will wrap up our discussion of black bedroom furniture with a look at our king, queen and full sized black beds.

What kind of furnishings do you have for a black bedroom? - Bound for a Black Bedroom in Boston

Dear Bound for a Black Bedroom in Boston,

Last time we discussed black dressers and now we will address the perfect accompaniment for those: black mirrors.

Most people choose one of our black mirrors to place atop their black dresser since the surface of the dresser is lower than that of a chest. This means that the black mirror will be at eye level for you will you are getting ready in the morning. We have black mirrors to match all of our suites, but if you find a mirror that appeals to you, there is nothing to stop you from getting a mirror to put over a non-matching dresser. Most likely, you are going to be the only one to see the inside of your bedroom, so the design choices you make can be solely your own. You you even put any of our black mirrors in your living room or an entry way. There are many uses outside of your bedroom for your mirror. In addition to our black mirrors for our bedroom suites, we also have a wide variety of accent mirrors from which to choose.

Next time we will spotlight another piece from our black bedroom suites. Here is a hint, they usually are seen in pairs beside beds.

What kind of furnishings do you have for a black bedroom? - Bound for a Black Bedroom in Boston

Dear Bound for a Black Bedroom in Boston,

Last time we discussed various pieces for black bedrooms for children's rooms. Now we return to the various aspects of our seven piece black bedroom suites, one of which are our black dressers.

These are necessities for any bedroom. The ample drawer space they provide allows even the worst of pack rats to store all of their personal items. Some of our customers have wondered what the difference is between our black dressers and chests. They think that they might only need one or the other instead of both, but they are both fine furnishings which ought to find their way into your room. A black dresser is unlike a chest in that it is lower to the ground. While a black chest is simply several drawers stacked in a single line atop each other, a black dresser has those drawers in two columns. Most people choose one of our black mirrors to place atop their black dresser since the surface of the dresser is lower than that of a chest. Dresser drawers are often larger and better for clothes, while chests are often used for accessory storage. In some households, the husband will put his clothes into a black chest and let his wife put hers in the black dresser, and the closet, and the bottom three drawers of the chest....

Next time we will spotlight another piece from our black bedroom suites.

What kind of furnishings do you have for a black bedroom? - Bound for a Black Bedroom in Boston

Dear Bound for a Black Bedroom in Boston,

Last time we discussed black bunk beds but now we will turn to another practical piece of furniture for a children's bedroom: black twin beds. With black bunk beds the children will assuredly argue over who gets the top bunk. We cannot do anything for the problem of who gets the top of the black bunk bed, but we can offer you another option you could have them both sleep on beds at the same level by getting two black twin beds for their room.

The best part about using black twin sized beds for a child's bedroom is that the children fit perfectly in the smaller bed. In most cases, children's bedrooms are also smaller than master bedrooms and they do not have enough space for a larger bed. By putting a black twin bed per child in your children's room, you will give them their own space they can call their own. Separate twin sized black beds allow children to express their own personality by choosing their own style of bedding. With all of the black twin beds at Coleman Furniture, they could even pick their own style of bed.

Next time, we will turn to other pieces of furnishing for black bedrooms.

What kind of furnishings do you have for a black bedroom? - Bound for a Black Bedroom in Boston

Dear Bound for a Black Bedroom in Boston,

Last time we discussed black chests, but now we will turn to a practical piece of furniture for a children's bedroom: black bunk beds. If you have more than one child, they likely fight over their beds' placement in their room. Siblings often argue over having the bed closer to the window or nearer the door. If your child's bedroom is outfitted with black furnishings, then a black bunk bed is a solution to the squabbling. With a black bunk bed, the children will both have their bed in the same spot in the room. This also saves on floor space in room since you do not need the room for two separate twin beds.

With all of the different styles of black bunk beds available, you will be sure to find something upon which you and your children can agree. Unfortunately, we cannot do anything for the problem of who gets the top of the black bunk bed. You might want to try having them alternate positions where they sleep either on the top or bottom bunk on different nights. Another possibility would be to have them both sleep on beds at the same level by getting two black twin beds for their room. We will discuss these next time.

What kind of furnishings do you have for a black bedroom? - Bound for a Black Bedroom in Boston

Dear Bound for a Black Bedroom in Boston,

Last time we discussed the many uses of black armoires. This time, we will turn to one of the most neglected and forgotten pieces of bedroom furniture: the black bedroom bench.

Sadly, black bedroom benches are overlooked by homeowners looking to refurnish their bedrooms. They should not be, however. Black bedroom benches offer a stylish spot to be used as a seat when dressing. Many people put black bedroom benches at the foot of their bed. In that spot, it serves as a convenient place to sit down and put on or take off your shoes. This keeps you from having to sit on the bed and wrinkle the sheets or bedspread. You can even store your shoes for ready access beneath a black bedroom bench so that they will not be tripped over. Many other people like to use black bedroom benches as seats in front of a vanity. Some of our dainty styles are perfect for a feminine touch to a black bedroom which is often associated with masculinity.

Stay tuned to this blog for a look at our black chests and more black bedroom furniture.

What kind of furnishings do you have for a black bedroom? - Bound for a Black Bedroom in Boston

Dear Bound for a Black Bedroom in Boston,

You are in luck. There are so many choices for black bedroom furniture here that this one question will be addressed over several blog responses. We will discuss all of the available options alphabetically beginning with our beautiful black armoires.

Black armoires are useful pieces of home furnishing. There are many things which can be stored in them, and you are sure to appreciate their ability to keep close at hand the things you use every day. Many people choose to keep their clothes in a black armoire. This was their original purpose, but now with technological advances, we have equipment around us which will not fit in with traditional home design styles. For this reason, black armoires are now being used to house televisions and computers. This means that you do not have to only have an armoire in your black bedroom. Black armoires will be at home just as much in your living room or home office. Whenever you need to use your television or computer, all you have to do is open the cabinets and then simply close them to hide away unsightly electronic equipment.
