How do I know what type of felt is best for me?

Like any other product there are many brands of felt available for your pool table. In our opinion if you're looking for the best quality there are only two brands to look at. Championship and Simonis. We chose Championship because they have the largest selection of colors and several different grades of felt to choose from. We recommend either the Titan for those who are looking to go the economic route. Of all the 21oz felt makers out there we have found the Championship Titan felt to be the most durable. For the serious pool player We recommend the Championship Tour Edition felt for your table. The tour edition is more durable than the Titan, the ball rolls truer and plays faster than with 21oz felt. The drawback is the cost, the Tour Edition is usually 3 to 4 times more expensive than the Titan felt. Second on our list is the Simonis. Simonis is considered by many to be the best in the business as far as pool table felt goes for the same reasons as the Tour Edition by Championship. While we agree that the Simonis is a much better felt than the Titan I find the the Tour Edition to be on par with the Simonis. Both brands are available for our pool tables at http://www.colemanfurniture.com/store/PPF/Category_ID/141_1/products.asp

What do I look for when shopping for a pool table?

There are several things to look for when shopping for a pool table. First is the cabinet and support system of the pool table. The thickness of the cabinet is very important. A one inch cabinet is the most standard thickness of tables considered to be of top quality. The support system should have two beams running from side to side and at least one beam running the length of the table down the middle. Second but just as important is the thickness of the slate. A one inch slate is recommended for optimum play. That is why a strong cabinet and support system are so important. The slate for an eight foot pool table usually weighs between 450 - 550 pounds. The size of the legs and number of bolts used on each leg are very important. All of the wieght of the table rest on the legs so the bigger and more stable the better.
